Director of Engineering, NPD & VAVE

Location: Apex, North Carolina, United States of America; onsite position

Annual base pay: $149,000–$276,700

Develops sustainable water solutions spanning residential water filtration, industrial water management, pool products, and related technologies.

What you will do

• Lead Mechanical NPD, Electrical NPD, and VAVE engineering teams in Apex.
• Own engineering specification quality and technical delivery across active new product development programs.
• Drive stage-gate governance, design reviews, and cross-functional coordination with Product Management, PMO, NPI, SQA, Reliability, and Field Test.
• Make engineering design-authority decisions and resolve mechanical, electrical, and VAVE trade-offs.
• Embed value analysis and value engineering into concept and detailed design while tracking design-phase cost improvements.
• Develop engineering managers, succession capability, and consistent NPD standard work across teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related Engineering discipline.
• 12+ years of engineering experience in new product development.
• 5+ years leading multiple engineering disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, and/or VAVE.
• Experience with front-end specification definition, stage-gate NPD processes, and hardware or electromechanical products.
• Experience leading or partnering on Value Analysis and Value Engineering, including the distinction between design-phase VE and post-launch VA.
• Strong program management, cross-functional governance, RACI, resource planning, and priority trade-off capabilities.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or MBA.
• Consumer, durable-goods, or industrial hardware product experience.
• Pool, water technology, or connected-product experience.
