Principal Software Engineer - Safety Experience (AI)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office-based roles require onsite attendance Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence Monday and Friday

Salary: $295,250–$345,040 USD base pay annually, plus potential equity and benefits

What you will do

• Design and build agentic workflows and technical solutions for customer-facing applications and internal use cases.
• Develop innovative LLM-powered chatbot features and optimize their cost.
• Shape the long-term safety experience roadmap with product, operations, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership and influence engineering decisions across teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and support their technical growth.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and at least 8 years of hands-on experience; a graduate degree is highly preferred.
• Required experience developing innovative solutions with LLMs.
• Extensive experience with C#, Java, Python, or similar modern programming languages.
• Strong knowledge of software design patterns, microservices, RESTful APIs, and RPC.
• Experience delivering scalable end-to-end solutions for complex technical challenges across multiple teams.
• For US-based roles, certain US work authorization categories may not be eligible, and future H-1B sponsorship may not be supported.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Prior machine learning experience.
