Manager, Medical Benefits

Location: New York City, United States; hybrid work

Base wage: $109,000–$136,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage the team responsible for medical insurance operations for members, dependents, and customers.
• Oversee ticket volumes, KPIs, SLAs, quality audits, workload planning, documentation, timecards, and PTO approvals.
• Establish scalable standard operating procedures, internal controls, and service agreements with internal and external partners.
• Lead onboarding, training, coaching, goal setting, feedback, performance reviews, and performance management.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Underwriting, Billing, Customer Support, Legal/Compliance, Finance, and Operations teams on incidents, bug fixes, file feeds, tooling, and product scaling.
• Maintain relationships with insurance carriers, vendors, and other external partners while identifying process and resourcing improvements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in operations, onboarding, or customer service-related work.
• 2+ years of people and team management experience, including coaching and development.
• Knowledge of benefits or insurance plans and experience with ticket management systems such as Jira.
• Experience with AI and automation tools, plus intermediate or advanced Excel knowledge.
• Strong project management, communication, relationship management, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
• Experience working collaboratively in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

• Experience with SQL.
