Software Engineer II, OSS (Distributed Systems)

Location: Remote-first; most roles are remote in-country, some are remote within a region, and occasional travel may be required for onboarding and team gatherings.

hirify.global develops the open-source hirify.global server and distributed systems platform used by open-source communities and enterprise customers.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, and ship scoped features and improvements for the hirify.global server.
• Work on distributed systems problems involving task matching, scheduling, workflow execution, visibility, quotas, throttling, persistence, and workflow lifecycle features.
• Partner with engineering, product, cloud, and customer-facing teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Improve reliability and operability through testing, instrumentation, dashboards, alerts, runbooks, and documentation.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews while contributing bug fixes and developer experience improvements.
• Share knowledge and collaborate with teammates across the engineering organization.

Requirements

• Experience building and operating production backend systems, including distributed systems and concurrency.
• Strong computer science fundamentals in concurrency, data structures, and debugging.
• Production-quality coding experience in Go, Java, or another applicable backend language.
• Understanding of fault tolerance, consistency tradeoffs, replication, scheduling, and performance.
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems, communicate tradeoffs, and incorporate code review feedback.
• Experience with testing practices and operational concerns such as logging, metrics, tracing, and on-call support is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Open source software or community experience.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Exposure to Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, ClickHouse, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Exposure to Kubernetes and related tooling such as CRDs, KEDA, or Argo.
