Software Engineer AI BU (AI)

Location: United States, including San Jose, California and Morrisville, North Carolina. The role follows a hybrid working environment with in-office and/or in-person expectations.

Salary: $170,000–$253,000 per year, depending on location, qualifications, experience, and education.

What you will do

• Serve as technical lead or primary design owner for AI BU projects and components from design through delivery.
• Design, build, and maintain complex software systems with strong performance, reliability, and maintainability.
• Write design documents and RFCs, participate in design reviews, and review complex designs and pull requests.
• Translate product requirements into technical designs with managers, technical leads, and product stakeholders.
• Identify and resolve technical debt, scalability limits, reliability gaps, and other technical risks.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in system design, testing, observability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including exposure to large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience as a technical lead or primary design owner for a project or team-level initiative.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with system design, distributed storage systems, data processing, analytics, or AI/ML systems.
• Working knowledge of agentic engineering using local and/or frontier models, plus familiarity with CI/CD infrastructure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical trade-offs and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed database systems.
• Experience training and deploying AI models.
• Experience with GPU workloads and accelerated computing infrastructure.
