Principal Software Engineer (Java/Cloud)

Location: On-site at headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, United States. Hybrid and remote work are not offered.

What you will do

• Lead the technical vision, architecture, and delivery of critical distributed backend services.
• Design resilient microservices and event-driven systems optimized for high throughput, low latency, and strict SLA/SLO requirements.
• Build and operate containerized workloads on GKE using Apigee, Spanner, Memorystore, and Google Cloud Storage.
• Drive infrastructure automation, CI/CD, observability, security, and zero-trust practices.
• Diagnose JVM, Kubernetes, networking, performance, and distributed-system issues, including profiling and memory analysis.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with product, platform, and security teams.

Requirements

• Master-level proficiency in Java and the Spring/Spring Boot ecosystem.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, microservices patterns, event-driven architecture, resilience engineering, and security protocols.
• Hands-on experience with GCP, including GKE, Apigee, Spanner, Memorystore, and GCS.
• Strong practical knowledge of Kubernetes internals, networking, cluster troubleshooting, Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with JVM profiling, garbage-collection tuning, flame graphs, heap dumps, thread analysis, and memory-leak investigation.
• Must work on-site at the Springfield, Missouri headquarters.

Nice to have

• Experience with Gradle and service mesh implementations such as Istio or Anthos Service Mesh.
• GCP Professional Cloud Architect or Developer certification.
