TL;DR
Engineering Technician D (Electronics/Optical Systems): Supporting the construction, integration, testing, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and maintenance of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical systems with an accent on fault isolation, system performance verification, and technical diagnostics. Focus on resolving complex technical issues, interpreting test results, recommending corrective actions, and mentoring junior technicians in a mission-driven defense technology environment.

Location: Onsite at the Salt Lake City, Utah facility; 2nd shift on a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

What you will do

  • Perform advanced construction, testing, troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and maintenance across electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical systems.
  • Use schematics, engineering drawings, manuals, test procedures, and diagnostic equipment to identify issues and isolate root causes.
  • Conduct calibration, alignment, functional checks, component replacements, and system performance verification.
  • Interpret test results, document findings, and recommend corrective actions and technical solutions.
  • Improve troubleshooting methods and test effectiveness across manufacturing, engineering, and test operations.
  • Mentor junior technicians and provide technical guidance and recommendations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an associate degree with at least 4 years of related experience.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical systems.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, fault-isolation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with test equipment, diagnostic tools, calibration, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work autonomously, exercise independent judgment, and collaborate across teams.
  • Applicants may need to obtain a security clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting process improvements and recommending new procedures or methods.
  • Experience leading or facilitating technical work within a team environment.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding lower-level technicians.
