AI Solutions Engineer – Agent Development

Location: Herndon, Virginia, USA. The role is primarily office-based; limited travel may be required.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain AI agents, prototypes, workflow automations, integrations, proof-of-concepts, and reusable software components.
• Build, test, debug, document, and refine AI-enabled applications and services using Python and, where required, C++.
• Design agent workflows, prompts, tool use, retrieval approaches, human-review steps, and output-evaluation methods.
• Integrate applications with APIs, structured and unstructured data sources, cloud services, knowledge repositories, and internal systems.
• Translate user needs into technical tasks, experiments, prototypes, demonstrations, and iterative releases.
• Collaborate with engineering, cloud, cybersecurity, data, program, and customer teams to deliver secure and maintainable solutions.

Requirements

• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology, information systems, data science, artificial intelligence, or a related field.
• One to four years of experience in software engineering, application development, data engineering, automation, cloud engineering, AI development, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Python and experience with C++, or the ability to become productive in C++ quickly.
• Familiarity with source control, testing, debugging, technical documentation, APIs, JSON, databases, web services, and system integration.
• Ability to learn quickly, solve problems analytically, collaborate effectively, and explain technical work to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience with generative AI, large language models, agent frameworks, machine learning, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, or workflow automation.
• Personally built software, applications, prototypes, automations, AI agents, technical projects, or open-source contributions beyond coursework.
• Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Experience in federal, public-sector, healthcare, defense, intelligence, or regulated environments.
• Relevant entry-level certifications such as AWS Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Google Cloud Digital Leader, Python, data analytics, or AI certifications.
