TL;DR
Research Development Officer (Federal Grants): Supporting large multidisciplinary grant proposals, funding opportunity scouting, faculty consultations, and research capacity building with an accent on NIH and biomedical research, proposal strategy, and institutional research development. Focus on coordinating multi-PI teams, refining scientific narratives, identifying external funding opportunities, and delivering proposal development training.

Location: Prairie View, Texas, United States; on-site staff position

Prairie View A&M University’s Research Administration supports the university’s expanding research enterprise and long-term progress toward R1 research status.

What you will do

  • Support large-scale, multi-PI, multidisciplinary, and center-type proposals for agencies including NSF, NIH, DOE, and DoD.
  • Coordinate proposal teams, shape project concepts and narrative structures, and manage proposal development through timely submission.
  • Maintain institutional boilerplate materials covering facilities, cybersecurity, workforce development, institutional data, and related plans.
  • Identify and distribute relevant federal and state funding opportunities, deadlines, and tailored opportunity briefs.
  • Advise faculty and research groups, identify interdisciplinary collaborators, and support early-career investigators.
  • Develop workshops, consultations, internal competitions, and administrative processes related to research development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least three years of experience securing federal funding through proposal development, including NIH funding requests for large proposals.
  • Experience writing on scientific and/or medical topics.
  • Knowledge of NIH and the biomedical research environment, including basic, clinical, translational, health services, and education research.
  • Strong oral and written communication, organization, multitasking, and collaboration skills.
  • Employment is based in Prairie View, Texas, and immigration sponsorship may be affected by current H-1B fee and filing restrictions; the university will not pay the referenced fee.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or doctoral degree.
  • Experience developing competitive proposals for federal, state, or industry sponsors.
  • Experience with university research administration, faculty collaboration, and multidisciplinary proposal teams.
  • Familiarity with Grants.gov, Research.gov, ASSIST, ezFedGrants, NSPIRES, and agency requirements for Justice, ED, USDA, NIH, NSF, NASA, DOE, and DoD.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Qualtrics, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
