Senior Politics Reporter (Gaelic News)

Location: Holyrood, Edinburgh, with regular work from the Scottish Parliament and on location. The role involves shift work, travel, and flexible working as political events require.

Salary: £42,000–£45,000 per year, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

What you will do

• Report on Scottish politics at all levels and explain complex political issues to diverse audiences.
• Deliver live and commissioned political content across digital, linear, audio, video and social platforms.
• Find compelling and diverse voices while questioning politicians, officials and stakeholders.
• Produce fair, accurate, impartial and appropriately nuanced political coverage.
• Develop innovative multimedia storytelling and contribute to the future of Gaelic journalism.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a reporter in a fast-paced newsroom, including breaking news and tight deadlines.
• Strong understanding of Scottish politics, the Scottish Government, the Scottish Parliament, local government and the wider UK political landscape.
• Strong interviewing skills and confidence questioning politicians, officials and stakeholders.
• Ability to create compelling content across text, video, audio and social media.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Gaelic and English are required.
• Willingness to travel and work flexibly around political events.

Nice to have

• Experience identifying, developing and delivering original political stories with public impact.
• A network of political contacts and sources.
• Experience filming, recording and editing digital content.
• Understanding of analytics and audience data for editorial decisions.
