Lead of Laboratory Automation (Robotics)

Location: Portland, Oregon, with work across a physics laboratory in London

What you will do

• Own physical and data automation for a new wet laboratory in Portland and a physics laboratory in London.
• Assess current laboratory workflows and identify where automation can save time and improve repeatability.
• Automate liquid handlers, robotic arms, magnetic racks, plate movement, sample and reagent transport, incubators, fridges, imaging, sensors, and custom rigs.
• Integrate instruments and collect run data in a consistent central format.
• Implement LIMS/ELN integrations, data pipelines, and experiment tracking for analysis and ML model training.
• Build the automation function initially as an individual contributor and grow it into a team lead role.

Requirements

• Experience owning or implementing laboratory automation systems.
• Ability to work with physical laboratory instruments, robotics, sensors, and custom automation rigs.
• Experience with instrument integration, LIMS or ELN systems, data pipelines, and experiment tracking.
• Ability to collaborate closely with scientific heads and understand existing laboratory workflows.
• Ability to work on-site in Portland, Oregon, and across the laboratory in London.
