Director, Engineering - Data Infrastructure & Reliability (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid, linked to Austin, TX; Sunnyvale, CA; Redmond, WA; or New York, NY, USA

Base salary: $195,000–$290,000 per year, plus eligibility for bonuses, equity grants, and benefits.

What you will do

• Form and scale a centralized Data Platform Enablement organization, including hiring engineering managers, technical leads, and senior engineers.
• Build automation for stateful data infrastructure, cloud and sovereign-region expansion, dependency sequencing, and repeatable environment launches.
• Develop end-to-end validation and continuous health-check systems that trace data from sensors through ingestion to query.
• Standardize reliability, efficiency, observability, incident response, resilience, capacity planning, and cost metrics across data platform teams.
• Automate data residency and compliance validation, including continuously generated audit evidence and executable controls.
• Communicate reliability, cost, and compliance outcomes to executives while driving adoption across teams outside the reporting line.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering teams and at least 2 years leading through managers.
• Experience building and scaling platform, SRE, or infrastructure organizations for high-throughput distributed systems.
• Strong grounding in SRE practices, including SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, incident command, postmortems, and capacity planning.
• Experience with stateful distributed systems, streaming, OLAP and search engines, object storage, and large-scale query systems.
• Experience managing infrastructure cost portfolios, regulatory or residency constraints, and cross-functional adoption without direct authority.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience; additional background and fingerprint checks are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with sovereign, air-gapped, or regulated cloud environments and automated compliance evidence.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, Flink, Spark, Cassandra, OpenSearch, Pinot, Trino, Python, Go, Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi, Kubernetes, or GitOps.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, chaos engineering, FinOps, or LLM-native incident tooling.
