Engineering Manager (Cybersecurity)

Location: US, Remote

Base salary: $225,000–$265,000 annually

Cybersecurity product company building NodeZero, a platform for autonomous penetration testing and security assessment operations across internal, external, cloud, and hybrid cloud environments.

What you will do

• Lead the engineering team responsible for NodeZero Tripwires and own delivery strategy for deception, detection, alerting, and customer-facing functionality.
• Partner with Product to sequence the roadmap and expand Tripwires coverage.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain engineers working across distributed systems and cybersecurity.
• Oversee the design of tripwire types that are attractive to attackers and indistinguishable from legitimate assets.
• Drive operational excellence through SLOs, observability, on-call practices, and incident response.
• Partner with the Attack team and establish strong engineering practices, including design reviews, technical writing, API contracts, and decision records.

Requirements

• Experience managing backend, data, or platform engineering teams and shipping products through a team.
• Strong backend and distributed systems fundamentals, including data modeling, API design, queues or streams, and batch-versus-streaming tradeoffs.
• Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, containers, and observability tools such as Datadog.
• Ability to lead through technical ambiguity, facilitate design discussions, and contribute to complex technical decisions.
• Clear written communication for roadmaps, design documents, and postmortems.
• Working knowledge of deception technologies such as honeypots, honeytokens, and canaries.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architectures or streaming platforms such as Kafka, Pulsar, Kinesis, or Flink.
• Understanding of post-compromise attacker behavior, including credential access, lateral movement, and privilege escalation.
• Background in cybersecurity, penetration testing, or vulnerability management.
• Familiarity with Python or Go.
