TL;DR
Senior Backend & Reliability Engineer (Distributed Systems/SRE): Building and operating high-throughput, real-time backend systems for Grab’s ride-hailing platform with an accent on scalability, observability, and production reliability. Focus on designing resilient services, debugging complex incidents, improving deployment and rollback practices, and supporting systems handling hundreds of millions of requests per day.
Location: Onsite in Beijing, China

What you will do
- Design, build, and operate backend systems supporting the ride-hailing mobility platform at high throughput and real-time scale.
- Work with Product, Design, Analytics, Operations, and partner-facing teams to define requirements, technical options, trade-offs, and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with Android, iOS, backend, QA, and ML engineers to implement scalable technical solutions.
- Write reusable, scalable, and testable code; review code and engineering specifications to improve engineering quality.
- Participate in on-call operations by triaging, debugging, mitigating, and resolving complex production issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in distributed systems environments.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Go, C++, or Python.
- Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, system design, production failure modes, and high-throughput or real-time distributed systems.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
- Hands-on experience with observability, reliability practices, AWS, CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure automation.
