Technical Writer – Legal & Tax Analysis

Location: USA - Riverwoods, IL; hybrid schedule requiring 8 days per month at one of three Chicago-area offices. Applicants may also be required to appear onsite for interviews.

Salary: $53,700–$91,950 USD per year, plus bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Research tax issues and track daily corporate actions involving publicly held companies.
• Analyze corporate filings, legal documents, tax opinions, and other guidance related to mergers, spin-offs, exchange offers, and securities transactions.
• Determine and communicate taxability and withholding consequences for corporate actions.
• Develop, write, edit, and publish accurate content and updates for the Capital Changes product suite.
• Provide research-based support to internal teams and clients when source materials are incomplete or unavailable.
• Manage multiple research assignments, meet daily publishing deadlines, and collaborate through editorial review.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field plus at least 3 years of relevant experience; or a JD, CPA, or Master’s degree in Taxation plus at least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of corporate tax, tax accounting, capital changes, corporate filings, cost basis, or related areas.
• Knowledge and understanding of U.S. federal taxation, securities, and financial markets.
• Strong research, analytical, reading comprehension, critical-thinking, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to interpret complex legal, financial, and corporate documents and translate them into clear, publishable content.
• Ability to work a hybrid schedule in the Chicago area and attend onsite interviews if required.
