HDM Sr. Staff Engineer (Hard Disk Drives)

Location: Shakopee, Minnesota; Longmont, Colorado; or Fremont, California, United States. On-site office-based position with up to 10% travel.

Estimated base salary: $147,035–$214,316 per year, depending on work location, skills, experience, and education.

What you will do

• Develop head-disk interface and head-media spacing technologies for next-generation PMR and HAMR drives.
• Engineer Angstrom-level spacing control solutions using mechanical, electrical, chemical, and materials engineering principles.
• Solve multidisciplinary challenges involving drive design, recording performance, manufacturing yield, and product reliability.
• Investigate critical performance and reliability issues through data-driven analysis and first-principles engineering.
• Partner with engineering, operations, suppliers, and research organizations to accelerate technology development and product readiness.
• Transfer breakthrough concepts into scalable, high-volume manufacturing solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field with 12+ years of experience, master’s degree with 8+ years, PhD with 5+ years, or equivalent education and experience.
• Experience creating charts with Microsoft Excel, JMP, or Minitab.
• Python scripting and debugging knowledge.
• Experience automating data acquisition.
• Statistical knowledge for data analysis.
• Ability to work collaboratively across design, engineering, manufacturing, and operations organizations.

Nice to have

• Previous hard disk drive experience.
• Slider technology experience.
