Staff Engineer, State Estimation (Robotics)

Location: Remote

Salary: $200,000–$300,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular full-time employees.

What you will do

• Research and develop state estimation and navigation algorithms for resilient autonomy in GPS-denied environments.
• Design and deploy production-grade C++ software for embedded robotic systems running in dynamic real-world environments.
• Develop unit, integration, and system-level tests to ensure robustness and safety.
• Build modeling, calibration, and simulation tools for inertial and vision-based navigation systems.
• Contribute to roadmap planning, feature decomposition, and agile execution with a multidisciplinary autonomy engineering team.
• Improve performance analysis, benchmarking, and validation pipelines.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, computer science, or a related field, with at least 2 years of related professional experience; new Ph.D. graduates may qualify with no required experience.
• Professional proficiency in modern C++ and strong object-oriented design skills.
• Hands-on experience deploying low-latency C++ applications to embedded Linux platforms.
• Professional experience implementing state estimation algorithms such as EKF, UKF, particle filters, or graph-based optimization.
• Experience with VIO, SLAM, or multi-sensor fusion frameworks and strong knowledge of CI pipelines and automated testing for C++.
• Ability to independently deploy high-reliability software for real-world autonomous systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with vision-aided inertial navigation, including VINS, VIO, or Terrain Relative Navigation.
• Experience calibrating IMUs, GPS, barometers, magnetometers, laser altimeters, or cameras.
• Deep understanding of graph-based optimization and experience with navigation benchmarking and system validation.
• Prototyping experience with Python or MATLAB.
