Senior Embedded Software & Controls Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Chelmsford, Massachusetts, United States. Work arrangements may include a mix of in-office and remote work depending on the role and business needs. U.S. employment eligibility is verified through E-Verify.

Base salary: $118,265.18–$160,005.83 USD annually, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design and implement real-time embedded control software for levitation systems, including DC commutation, high-bandwidth positioning, and distributed control coordination.
• Translate state-space and model-based control systems into deterministic embedded software with sensor fusion for multi-degree-of-freedom feedback.
• Architect distributed control frameworks with synchronized control loops, low-latency communication, and fault-tolerant designs.
• Integrate control software with power electronics, current drivers, high-speed sensors, and FPGA- or MCU-based platforms.
• Lead system bring-up, tuning, debugging, and validation using laboratory instrumentation and system-level performance analysis.
• Collaborate with controls, electrical, mechanical, firmware, FPGA, and systems architecture teams while contributing to patents and next-generation control architectures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in embedded software and controls development.
• Strong real-time embedded programming skills in C/C++, feedback control theory, multi-axis motion control, and high-performance servo systems.
• Experience implementing digital control loops on MCU, SoC, or FPGA platforms with deterministic timing constraints.
• Ability to work in or support the Chelmsford, Massachusetts location under the stated work arrangement.
• Eligibility for employment in the United States is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with electromagnetic or motor control systems, including BLDC, linear motors, planar motors, or custom commutation strategies.
• Experience with distributed control systems, real-time fieldbuses such as EtherCAT, MATLAB/Simulink, sensor fusion, or high-precision metrology.
• Knowledge of FPGA-based control, hardware acceleration, micron/sub-micron motion control, and multi-physics interactions.
