TL;DR
Jr. Mechanical Design Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and prototyping structural and mechanical components for unmanned aerial systems and counter-UAS platforms with an accent on SolidWorks CAD modeling, manufacturing drawings, mechanical interfaces, and rapid hardware iteration. Focus on tolerance analysis, EBOM and digital mock-up management, hands-on integration testing, and transitioning designs into production-ready hardware.

Location: Munich, Germany; onsite work at the Munich facility

What you will do

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Design mechanical interfaces, brackets, enclosures, propulsion integrations, and sensor-payload components.
  • Develop dummy models and test fixtures for hardware-in-the-loop and integration testing.
  • Perform tolerance stack-ups, fit checks, basic structural stress calculations, and digital mock-up updates.
  • Manage mechanical EBOMs and coordinate machined, sheet-metal, and 3D-printed parts with procurement and manufacturing partners.
  • Support design reviews, assembly, integration, laboratory testing, and failure mode analysis documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 1–2 years of practical experience, or relevant internship/project experience, in mechanical design and CAD modeling.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles, GD&T, and material selection.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and workshop tools.
  • Professional fluency in English, written and spoken, is required.

Nice to have

  • German proficiency.
  • Experience in aerospace, defence, or unmanned autonomous systems.
  • Knowledge of composite materials, lay-up techniques, and structural manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with structural stress analysis or FEA tools such as Ansys, Nastran, or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Knowledge of PLM/PDM systems, EBOM structures, and document management.
