Member of Technical Staff - Infrastructure Data & Analytics Engineers

Location: Mountain View, United States. Employees living within 50 miles of a designated U.S. Microsoft office are expected to work from the office at least four days per week.

Salary: USD $119,800–$234,700 per year for Software Engineering IC4 roles. A separate range of USD $160,200–$261,000 applies to the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area. Software Engineering IC5 ranges are USD $142,800–$274,800 per year, or USD $188,000–$304,200 in those specific locations.

What you will do

• Own the technical vision and execution for infrastructure analytics across compute, storage, and networking.
• Design and build scalable data pipelines that ingest telemetry from clusters, schedulers, health systems, and capacity trackers into a data warehouse.
• Define standardized metrics for utilization, occupancy, MFU, goodput, capacity readiness, and delivery to production.
• Architect self-service dashboards and APIs providing fleet-, cluster-, and squad-level visibility.
• Partner with infrastructure, research, strategy, and executive stakeholders to align metrics with operational and business needs.
• Drive data quality, validation, documentation, governance, instrumentation fixes, and fault-tolerant ingestion systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related field, plus 4+ years of relevant technical experience, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience with distributed data processing frameworks and large-scale data systems.
• Increasing technical ownership in data engineering, data science, analytics, software development, or data modeling.
• Based in or able to work from the Mountain View, United States location under the applicable office attendance policy.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and 10+ years of relevant technical experience.
• Technical leadership in data engineering, analytics platforms, or large-scale telemetry systems.
• Hands-on experience with ETL orchestration frameworks such as Airflow or Dagster.
• Experience communicating complex technical systems and concepts to senior leaders.
