Base pay range for work performed in Amsterdam, Netherlands: €53,800–€89,900 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy AI, machine learning, NLP, generative AI, and LLM-powered solutions for scientific discovery, research intelligence, and editorial workflows.
• Build retrieval, semantic search, RAG, agentic AI, knowledge graph, ontology, and citation-aware systems for complex scientific content.
• Develop intelligent research and decision-support capabilities using embeddings, ranking systems, retrieval pipelines, and domain-specific data.
• Establish evaluation, experimentation, and monitoring frameworks covering relevance, grounding, hallucination detection, reliability, scalability, cost, and user impact.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, research, and domain experts to productionise AI systems, influence technical strategy, and mentor data scientists.

Requirements

• Significant experience applying data science, machine learning, AI, NLP, information retrieval, and statistical techniques to scalable, production-grade solutions.
• Hands-on expertise with large language models, generative AI, semantic search, RAG, embeddings, ranking systems, and AI evaluation frameworks.
• Proficiency in Python and data science tools, with experience handling large structured and unstructured datasets and applying cloud, software engineering, and MLOps practices.
• Experience with production-quality code, APIs, databases, testing, CI/CD, DevOps, and modern collaborative development practices.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and mentoring skills.
• An advanced degree or equivalent practical expertise in a quantitative field.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-powered knowledge discovery, search, recommendation, conversational systems, citation-aware reasoning, or evidence-grounded AI.
• Experience with scientific, scholarly, biomedical, or other knowledge-intensive domains.
• Experience with monitoring, drift detection, automated retraining, performance optimisation, and high-throughput AI systems.
• Research publications, patents, open-source contributions, responsible AI, human-in-the-loop evaluation, or AI-assisted development experience.
