AI Engineer (Applied AI)

Location: San Francisco or San Jose, California, United States. Work arrangement: 4 days in person and Fridays remote.

Estimated total cash compensation: $275,000–$400,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build AI products for clients in small, high-caliber engineering teams.
• Set technical direction and own end-to-end technical outcomes.
• Write approximately 75% of the time, producing elegant, production-ready chirify.global.
• Apply software engineering discipline to non-deterministic frontier AI systems.
• Design testable hypotheses, curate durable datasets, and ensure shipped systems remain reliable after handoff.
• Spend approximately 25% of the time working with clients and senior technical stakeholders to understand problems and evaluate tradeoffs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience and a strong commitment to software craftsmanship.
• Experience shipping multiple complete products end to end across multiple disciplines.
• Specific interest in applying software engineering fundamentals to AI systems.
• Comfort communicating with senior technical stakeholders and understanding how people use built systems.
• High ownership, low ego, and high integrity.
• Ability to work in person four days per week in San Francisco or San Jose, with Fridays remote.
