Head of Forward Deployed Engineering (AI)

Location: San Francisco, on-site

Salary: $240,000–$300,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Build and lead the forward deployed engineering function, including hiring, operating processes, and collaboration with sales, product, and engineering.
• Own end-to-end customer integrations with PLM, ALM, CAD, simulation, and issue-tracking tools.
• Design and deploy AI workflows tailored to customer requirements and systems engineering processes.
• Drive product adoption from individual teams to broader organizational use and identify barriers to usage.
• Partner with account executives on customer expansion across programs, teams, use cases, and business units.
• Convert sales-engineering pilots into production deployments and feed customer insights into the product roadmap.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, software engineering, or a technical customer-facing role.
• 2+ years of experience leading a team.
• Strong ability to build integrations, reason about APIs and data models, and work with complex engineering stacks.
• Hands-on experience building with LLMs or deploying AI-driven workflows for customers in production.
• Track record of driving adoption and expanding customer accounts.
• Ability to work with engineers, VPs, and program leads while balancing hands-on execution with building team structure.

Nice to have

• Experience with requirements or systems engineering and PLM/ALM tools such as Jama or DOORS.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or regulated hardware environments.
• Familiarity with ITAR, CMMC, on-premises, or restricted deployment requirements.
