Head of Business Technology Engineering (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid, with staff expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD

What you will do

• Lead and scale a global engineering organization across Platforms and Forward Deployed engineering.
• Hire, level, develop, and manage engineering leads and managers.
• Define and execute a year-plus roadmap for using Claude across business functions.
• Run the Platforms track, ensuring reliability, velocity, and scale for shared internal systems and Claude Support.
• Run the Forward Deployed track, including prioritization, handoffs, adoption, and durable ownership across business functions.
• Partner with Legal, Workplace, Communications, Product Operations, Product Support, Labs, Product, Security Engineering, and GTM on responsible internal AI deployment and enterprise-facing practices.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience and 6+ years leading engineers.
• At least 3 years managing managers and experience leading an organization of 20+ people across multiple domains.
• Experience running internal tools, business systems, or platform engineering in a rapidly growing company.
• Strong technical judgment across agent architecture, evaluation design, failure modes, reliability, and adoption.
• Ability to communicate trade-offs and drive decisions with legal, workplace, product, and engineering leaders.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice to have

• Forward Deployed, software engineering, or applied AI leadership experience with external customers.
• Product management experience or close partnership with product managers and analysts.
• Experience with Salesforce, Workday, Google Workspace, or Slack at platform scale.
• Experience creating engineering career frameworks or launching a Forward Deployed function.
