Benefits Underwriter (Employee Benefits)

Location: Remote or hybrid work at MMA’s Conshohocken office, or at customer/MMA locations as required

Salary: $99,400–$158,900 base salary per year, with potential performance-based incentives.

What you will do

• Analyze financial and claims data and translate complex plan designs into decision-ready underwriting results.
• Build and refine pricing and forecasting models for employee benefit programs.
• Project Life, Absence, and Disability renewal positions and negotiate rates and plan options.
• Identify claims and performance trends and help develop solutions that reduce risk and improve outcomes.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams on requests for proposals for Life, Absence, and Disability programs.
• Monitor insurance market developments, underwriting practices, client needs, laws, and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management and insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of underwriting experience in benefits brokerage, consulting, or insurance is highly preferred.
• Comfort with numbers, financial analysis, data interpretation, and financial modeling.
• Working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint; intermediate to advanced proficiency is preferred.
• Clear communication skills, attention to detail, curiosity, and a proactive mindset.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Experience with different funding mechanisms, including self-funded and insured plans.
• Experience with Excel-based modeling tools.
