Principal Engineer, App Foundations (AI)

Location: San Diego, California, United States

Salary: $247,500–$335,000 annual base pay, with potential cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive major technology initiatives and horizontal architecture layers from design through implementation.
• Design and deliver durable, scalable, secure software solutions for shared infrastructure supporting TurboTax and Credit Karma.
• Apply AI technologies to customer problems, selecting appropriate models and evaluation approaches.
• Partner with Architecture, Product Management, Operations, and other engineering groups to design, develop, test, and release features.
• Define engineering standards, patterns, best practices, technology prototypes, and process improvements.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical decisions across a highly matrixed organization.

Requirements

• Must work from San Diego, California.
• 8+ years of experience developing systems or software for large business environments.
• 5+ years of experience designing complex distributed systems, management products, or business applications.
• Full-stack experience applying AI technologies and tools to user experiences or backend solutions, including technologies such as SageMaker, Vertex, LangChain, large language models, prompt engineering, DialogFlow, or Python.
• Experience with frontend technologies such as React, Angular, SwiftUI, or Kotlin and backend technologies such as Java, TypeScript, Spring, or Express.
• Strong analytical, communication, mentoring, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership skills; a BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS or GCP.
• At least one year of experience working on teams that built AI-native applications.
• Experience working with global teams across time zones.
