Manager, Tooling Engineering

Salary: $225,000–$280,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Build, lead, and develop a team of tooling engineers through hiring, mentorship, performance management, and career growth.
• Set the technical strategy and roadmap for structural and mechanical tooling supporting large components and assemblies.
• Own tooling programs from concept and design through build, validation, delivery, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with engineering, manufacturing, quality, automation, and program teams to launch new production capabilities.
• Manage vendors and suppliers to deliver tooling systems on schedule and within budget.
• Establish standards, design reviews, documentation, validation practices, and technical guidance for demanding tooling challenges.

Requirements

• Experience leading or managing engineers, or senior technical leadership experience suitable for formal people management.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the role of tooling in quality and production efficiency.
• Deep experience designing and delivering tooling systems for complex or large-scale parts and assemblies, including machining or welding applications.
• Ability to direct prototyping and continuous improvement across multiple concurrent programs.
• Working proficiency in FEA and static analysis, with fluency in 3D modeling and simulation tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or ANSYS.
• Knowledge of material selection and fabrication techniques for high-load or high-temperature environments; must meet applicable U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

• Experience building or scaling an engineering team in a fast-paced manufacturing or hardware environment.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills with cross-functional influence.
