Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Trust and Safety)

Location: Remote Canada; candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Base pay: CAD 181,000–241,000 per year.

What you will do

• Set technical strategy for the team over a year-long planning horizon and connect it to business-critical projects.
• Lead complex initiatives from ambiguous problem definition through technical planning and execution.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
• Own system operations and availability through monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call practices.
• Establish code review and system design standards, and promote engineering quality through writing and technical talks.
• Provide feedback and guidance to help engineers grow.

Requirements

• Must reside in one of the listed Canadian provinces for this remote role.
• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin and highly available distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Track record of delivering major features or system components, deprecating functionality, and defining technical execution plans.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.
