Software Engineer, Safety Processing

Location: San Francisco Bay Area or remote within the U.S.

Salary: $160,000–$220,000 USD base salary per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Scale and improve systems for reviewing and detecting harmful content.
• Build and maintain production services operating at massive scale.
• Participate in on-call rotations and post-launch iteration.
• Apply an adversarial mindset to security, abuse scenarios, edge cases, and scalability.
• Collaborate with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy, and product partners.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend services or infrastructure.
• Professional experience with Python or a similar programming language.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems and production services at scale, including GCP or AWS.
• Strong debugging skills and ability to navigate complex, multi-service codebases.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional partners.
• Ability to work from the San Francisco Bay Area or remotely within the U.S.

Nice to have

• Experience with content moderation, Trust & Safety, or related domains.
• Experience with observability tooling, metrics, and monitoring systems at scale.
• Passion for Discord and making online communities safer.
