Forward Deployed AI Architect

Location: US Remote; occasional travel of up to 15% to work on site with teams, including field and chapter operations. The role is associated with Chicago, Illinois, United States.

Salary: $155,000–$168,000 annually, plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus of up to 6%.

What you will do

• Embed with teams to observe and map processes, identify inefficiencies and errors, and involve staff in redesign.
• Build and ship AI agents, automations, skills, and tools primarily with Claude and approved AI platforms.
• Run time-boxed delivery sprints, define measurable value targets, validate outcomes, and complete handoffs.
• Provide troubleshooting during active sprints and a 30-day stabilization period.
• Create reusable agents, skills, templates, and a pattern library for teams across the Association.
• Coordinate with AI Platform Operations, IT, Enterprise Risk, and the AI Collective on security, access, data handling, and responsible deployment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
• 3–5 years of experience understanding and changing operational processes.
• Hands-on experience building AI agents, automations, or tools adopted in day-to-day work.
• Working fluency with Claude or a comparable enterprise AI platform, including agentic and multi-step workflows.
• Ability to work with APIs, connectors, and structured data, and distinguish prototypes from production systems.
• Strong communication and teaching skills for working with non-technical and skeptical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Claude Code, Claude Cowork, MCP servers, or comparable agent development frameworks.
• Experience delivering AI or automation in a large, matrixed organization.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Workday, or CXone.
• Experience in scientific research, public policy, healthcare, fundraising, field operations, or the nonprofit sector.
• Experience documenting and scaling solutions beyond the original team.
