AI Oncology Portfolio Lead (Director)

Location: United States — California — San Diego. Hybrid role working on site an average of 2.5 days per week; candidates must be commutable to the site.

Annual base salary: $176,600–$294,300, plus a 20% bonus target and eligibility for a share-based long-term incentive program.

What you will do

• Analyze the Oncology Research portfolio from early scientific discovery through preclinical development using AI, machine learning, predictive models, and advanced analytics.
• Develop project- and portfolio-level strategies covering prioritization, pipeline balance, resource allocation, and scenario modeling.
• Integrate AI-derived insights, knowledge graphs, competitive intelligence, and external data into governance and project-team decisions.
• Collaborate with discovery research, translational science, clinical development, and business strategy functions to create unified portfolio recommendations.
• Present dashboards, visualizations, executive presentations, and AI-enabled recommendations to senior leaders and governance committees.
• Identify new data sources and analytical approaches that improve portfolio evaluation, forecasting accuracy, and data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

• PhD in oncology, molecular biology, pharmacology, computational biology, or a related scientific field.
• 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotech R&D experience, including drug discovery or development and strategic roles in portfolio management, R&D strategy, or advanced analytics.
• 5+ years of experience using AI to solve drug discovery problems, perform scenario modeling or simulation, and create data visualizations.
• Experience working with AI/ML teams, implementing AI tools in R&D, and interpreting complex data models.
• Strong understanding of Oncology R&D, drug discovery across small molecules, biologics, and ADCs, and scientific and clinical decision-making.
• Permanent U.S. work authorization is required; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.

• Training or hands-on experience in data science, bioinformatics, or AI-driven decision support in life sciences.
• Broad exposure to discovery, preclinical, clinical, translational, and business development functions.
• Experience championing new technologies, driving adoption of data-driven decision-making, and managing organizational change.
