Laboratory Supervisor (Esoteric Microbiology)

Location: Burlington, North Carolina, United States. On-site work schedule: Monday–Friday, 4:30 p.m.–1:00 a.m.

What you will do

• Supervise daily operations and workflow for the esoteric microbiology laboratory.
• Ensure accurate, timely testing and reporting while maintaining adequate assay coverage and staffing across shifts.
• Train, mentor, coach, and provide feedback to laboratory personnel.
• Research and resolve production errors, escalate issues when necessary, and drive process and service-level improvements.
• Maintain equipment quality control, quality assurance records, policies, procedures, payroll, and personnel files.
• Perform bench work as needed and ensure laboratory activities comply with state and federal regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology; applicable non-traditional degrees with science credits meeting CLIA standards may qualify.
• At least 6 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• Knowledge of laboratory operations, CLIA, CAP, and relevant state regulations.
• Experience in a high-volume laboratory environment and familiarity with laboratory information systems.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, organizational, decision-making, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, pass a standardized color blindness test, and work overtime or other shifts when needed.

Nice to have

• At least 6 months of experience supervising or leading a team.
• ASCP or AMT certification.
