Lead Data Engineer

Location: Hybrid role with office presence required 3 days per week in Barcelona city centre or offices near Madrid Airport, Spain. Work from home is available up to 2 days per week, depending on team needs.

What you will do

• Design scalable cloud-based data architectures focused on performance, cost efficiency, and security.
• Develop reference ingestion patterns and templates for enterprise systems, APIs, and external datasets.
• Build and maintain platform services, system tables, reference implementations, and data pipelines.
• Guide portfolio teams on ETL/ELT best practices without owning their data products or pipelines.
• Apply data governance, cataloguing, and quality monitoring to produce trustworthy and well-documented data.
• Collaborate with architects, data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver technical solutions for air transport analytics and AI/ML use cases.

Requirements

• 5+ years of technical experience with big data systems.
• Experience or familiarity with Databricks, Spark, and event streaming technologies such as Azure Event Hubs or Kafka.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python, including clean coding and object-oriented programming practices.
• Cloud deployment experience, preferably with Azure.
• Strong collaboration, advisory, proactive problem-solving, flexibility, and adaptability skills.
• Ability to work from the Barcelona or Madrid office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Power BI, Databricks Dashboards, or Tableau.
• Understanding of dimensional modelling and data warehouse design.
