Senior Software Engineer, Frontend (App Foundations)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office-based roles are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $242,100–$312,970 USD annual base pay

What you will do

• Design and implement robust frontend systems powering core surfaces such as Home, Avatar, and Search.
• Create reusable React-based frontend abstractions for consistent UI development across teams and devices.
• Maintain and evolve internal React-inspired Luau UI libraries, including state management and performance capabilities.
• Define scalable, testable frontend architecture standards using patterns such as Flux, MVC, and MVVM.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to deliver cohesive user experiences.
• Provide architectural leadership, review designs and code, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience, including substantial experience building user-facing frontend applications.
• Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript or TypeScript, mobile or web frontend technologies, and React.
• Experience with component-based architecture, state management, API and module design, and unit or integration testing.
• Experience optimizing frontend performance through debugging, profiling, and benchmarking.
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating across engineering, product, and design teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Swift, Kotlin, C++, or other low-level languages.
• Experience developing applications or libraries for web, iOS, Android, Windows, or other platforms.
• Experience with large-scale or high-traffic applications.
