TL;DR
Principal Grid Analytics Engineer (Power Systems): Leading utility-focused power systems modeling and analytics across transmission and distribution networks with an accent on short circuit, power flow, arc flash, voltage imbalance, and thermal ampacity analysis. Focus on managing and mentoring an engineering team, developing automation with Python, SQL, and VBA, and delivering technically rigorous client projects on schedule and budget.

Location: Fully remote, United States only

Salary: $144,381–$245,448 annually

What you will do

  • Lead and manage a small team delivering power systems modeling and analytics for utility clients.
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers in power engineering theories and principles.
  • Manage project scopes, timelines, budgets, forecasts, milestones, schedules, and client status meetings.
  • Develop and maintain transmission short circuit and power flow models using CAPE, ASPEN, PSSE, and PSCAD.
  • Develop distribution system models and perform arc flash, voltage imbalance, transmission line, and thermal ampacity analyses using tools such as CYME, Synergi, WindMil, PLS-CADD, and PSCAD.
  • Write technical reports and develop automation scripts to improve analysis efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience with electrical engineering principles, transmission and distribution modeling, power system analysis, arc flash calculations, voltage imbalance studies, or thermal ampacity ratings.
  • 5+ years of experience working at an electric utility, such as an investor-owned, municipal, or cooperative utility.
  • Experience with power systems modeling software and spreadsheet-based engineering analyses.
  • Ability to lead teams, communicate with clients, manage project delivery, and work independently from a home office.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, power engineering, or a related field.
  • People management, mentoring, quality assurance, and constructive feedback experience.
  • Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NERC, and FERC standards and regulations.
  • Experience using Python to automate power systems analyses.
