Scientist II (Cancer Genomics)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid work with 2–3 days onsite per week

Salary: $85,000–$104,650 per year

What you will do

• Define and prioritize clinical biomarkers, including how they are computed, interpreted, and displayed.
• Analyze targeted cancer gene panel, whole-exome sequencing, and RNA sequencing data; develop and validate bioinformatics pipelines.
• Collaborate with genomics and cBioPortal teams to report clinical biomarkers and capture genomic data for research and clinical trial matching.
• Translate requirements from oncologists, pathologists, researchers, and faculty into clear software and bioinformatics specifications.
• Set scientific direction for engineers, review implementations, manage scope, and mentor junior team members.
• Document and version biomarker definitions to ensure reproducible, trustworthy results.

Requirements

• PhD in genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with cancer genomics and transcriptomics, including targeted gene panels, WES, and RNA sequencing.
• Experience working directly with genomics or transcriptomics researchers and clinicians.
• Software project experience sufficient to coordinate with engineers, set scientific direction, and keep projects on scope.
• 6–9 years of relevant experience after undergraduate study, or 1–2 years after an advanced degree, with increasing scope and complexity.
• Ability to work onsite in Boston 2–3 days per week.
