TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, qualifying, and transitioning mechanical systems and flight hardware for next-generation satellite platforms with an accent on spacecraft structures, mechanisms, electronics packaging, and deployable systems. Focus on structural, thermal, vibration, shock, and environmental analyses, qualification testing, design reviews, and resolving complex spacecraft engineering problems.

Location: Tempe, Arizona, or Carlsbad, California, United States. U.S. Citizenship required.

Salary: $120,500–$190,000 annually. For specific work locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $149,500–$224,500 annually.

What you will do

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for satellite structures, mechanisms, electronics packaging, and deployable systems.
  • Support mechanical subsystem development from concept through qualification, production, integration, and on-orbit support.
  • Perform structural, thermal, dynamic, vibration, shock, and environmental analyses for flight hardware.
  • Develop engineering requirements, specifications, drawings, procedures, and qualification plans.
  • Participate in hardware integration, testing, anomaly resolution, and design reviews including PDR, CDR, TRR, and FRR.
  • Collaborate with systems, thermal, electrical, manufacturing, reliability, supply chain, quality, and program management teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including spaceflight hardware development.
  • Experience developing mechanical systems for spacecraft, satellites, launch vehicles, or other aerospace systems.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or NX, and engineering analysis tools such as ANSYS, Nastran, Simcenter, or Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience with vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, thermal cycling, and other environmental qualification and acceptance testing.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with small satellites, broadband constellations, spacecraft buses, composite structures, lightweight design, or deployable mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of launch vehicle interfaces, spacecraft integration, DFM/DFA, PLM systems, and spaceflight standards.
  • Experience supporting suppliers, contract manufacturers, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
