Software Architect (AI)

Location: Remote, preferred local to the DMV area; McLean, VA

What you will do

• Own the architecture, technical direction, service boundaries, API contracts, data flows, and engineering standards for the Workforce platform.
• Design AI-enabled application patterns, including tool calling, system instructions, context management, retrieval grounding, and LLM integrations.
• Lead technical execution through solution design, task breakdown, estimation, sequencing, code reviews, mentoring, and collaboration with the Product Manager.
• Serve as Release Manager for the multi-service release train, coordinating readiness, change control, rollback planning, and post-release verification.
• Partner with platform and DevOps engineers on CI/CD, Helm deployments to AKS, observability, autoscaling, performance testing, and production incidents.
• Contribute hands-on to full-stack feature development, integrations, critical-path work, debugging, and production fixes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience and 5+ years designing and owning production application architecture.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Strong coding ability in at least one strongly typed object-oriented language, such as Java, C#, TypeScript, Go, or Kotlin.
• Experience building modern web front ends, backend APIs, services, integration layers, and production application architectures.
• Knowledge of API design, authentication and authorization, data modeling, testing, secure software development, release practices, and AI-first application patterns.

Nice to have

• Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, microservices, containers, Kubernetes, AKS, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Azure Government, Azure GCC, or other compliance-constrained cloud environments.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, LlamaIndex, OpenAI or Azure OpenAI APIs, or similar frameworks.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 integrations, identity providers, sensitive data, auditability, DevSecOps, observability, and production support.
• Background in AI-enabled document workflows, search, summarization, workflow automation, agentic applications, SaaS, enterprise, government, or secure internal platforms.
