TL;DR
Senior Autonomy Engineer (Aerospace): Defining spacecraft-level autonomous behavior across all mission phases with an accent on fault detection, mode transitions, safing, recovery, and mission execution. Focus on coordinating autonomy across flight software, GNC, avionics, and ground systems, and validating decision logic through SIL, HIL, and mission simulations.

Location: Boulder County, United States; onsite

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Define spacecraft autonomy architecture, including modes, states, authority, and decision boundaries.
  • Own system-level fault management, safing, and recovery logic.
  • Coordinate autonomous behavior across flight software, GNC, avionics, and ground systems.
  • Define and maintain autonomy interfaces and assumptions.
  • Drive verification through software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, and mission simulations.
  • Configure vehicle automations and support integration, test campaigns, and mission operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience defining requirements and system-level behavior.
  • Hands-on experience with verification, simulation, or testing.
  • Experience with spacecraft autonomy or fault management.
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to reason about failures, edge cases, and operational risk.
  • Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain a U.S. export license under ITAR/EAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with flight software, GNC, or mission operations.
  • Experience with state machines, autonomy frameworks, or onboard decision-making.
  • Experience with proximity operations, rendezvous, landing, or deep-space missions.
