Senior Optical Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; on-site five days per week

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 annually, plus annual bonus and equity

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional design of optical subsystems for laser distribution, high-numerical-aperture microscope imaging, and optical cavities.
• Define system architecture and make strategic trade-offs across competing requirements.
• Create optical system and subsystem designs from component level through system level.
• Perform tolerance and stray-light analysis to evaluate design suitability.
• Develop alignment procedures and lead hands-on assembly and precision alignment.
• Characterize optical subsystem performance and collaborate with mechanical engineers and physicists.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Sciences, Optical Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
• 5–8+ years of optical design experience and 4+ years of hands-on optics assembly in a laboratory environment.
• Experience designing high-numerical-aperture imaging systems.
• Proficiency with Zemax, FRED, or equivalent ray-tracing software.
• Experience with Onshape, SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives independently, communicate effectively, and lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
