Director, Data Science (AI/ML)

Location: United States, remote

Compensation range: $230,000–$410,000 annually.

What you will do

• Own the data science roadmap, deliverables, model priorities, and quality standards.
• Build and mentor a team of 5–15 data scientists and ML engineers, including hiring, career development, code review, and technical leadership.
• Partner with product, engineering, and business leaders to define data science opportunities and communicate results to non-technical stakeholders.
• Lead ML system design and architecture decisions across feature engineering, model selection, validation, and deployment.
• Establish standards for code quality, experimentation, documentation, and reproducibility.
• Drive adoption of LLMs, causal inference, AutoML, and other tools where they improve capabilities or team efficiency.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on data science and machine learning experience, including model development, statistical analysis, experimentation, and production ML systems.
• 3+ years of people leadership, including team building, mentoring, hiring, and career development.
• Strong technical depth in Python, SQL, and modern ML frameworks, with experience shipping models to production.
• Ability to translate business problems into data science questions and communicate modeling results to executives and product teams.
• Experience setting technical strategy and standards and driving team adoption.
• Comfort working remotely across distributed, cross-functional teams.
