Director of Data (AI/ML)

Location: Remote within the United States; strong preference for candidates in Ventura or the greater Los Angeles area. Relocation assistance is provided.

Salary: $220K–$260K annually, plus equity and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Own the data and machine learning roadmap and connect it to product outcomes and company metrics.
• Partner with product, engineering, and operations to ship smarter routing, batching, deadhead reduction, pricing, and ETA capabilities.
• Lead machine learning strategy across routing and optimization, demand forecasting, pricing, and delivery intelligence.
• Move models from prototypes into production and own monitoring, performance, and iteration.
• Own analytics, metrics, dashboards, data modeling, semantics, and quality across the business.
• Build, hire, and mentor a high-performing data and ML team while establishing reliable platform and governance foundations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data and/or machine learning, including 3+ years leading teams at a high-growth company.
• Demonstrated experience shipping machine learning models into production and owning their outcomes.
• Fluency with a modern data stack, including Snowflake or an equivalent platform.
• Strong product and business judgment with experience connecting data work to measurable outcomes.
• Ability to work hands-on early, scale a team, and communicate effectively with executives and engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience in logistics, marketplaces, or operations-heavy domains.
• Experience establishing an AI-native or agentic approach to data and internal tooling.
