Executive Underwriting Director (Brokerage Excess)

Location: Remote within the lower 48 U.S. states; the role is associated with Texas and requires travel.

Salary: $152,000–$228,000 expected starting annual range; national range up to $269,000.

What you will do

• Lead strategy, financial performance, and business growth for an assigned regional Excess Casualty portfolio.
• Select and underwrite complex risks, develop appetite guidelines, and support product development.
• Analyze exposures, premiums, endorsements, exclusions, coverage forms, and catastrophe modeling results.
• Manage broker, program manager, and producer relationships, including marketing visits and negotiations.
• Monitor premium, losses, broker submissions, rates, coverage, appetite, and territory performance.
• Develop underwriting professionals, provide feedback, and contribute to high-impact organizational initiatives.

Requirements

• At least eight years of underwriting experience, preferably with large or complex programs and accounts.
• Experience in Excess & Surplus lines is preferred.
• Knowledge of E&S underwriting, rating plans, treaty and facultative reinsurance, regulatory issues, and agency distribution.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Undergraduate studies in a related discipline or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Must be eligible to work from one of the lower 48 U.S. states; travel is required.

Nice to have

• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation.
• Experience with manuscript coverage forms and comprehensive catastrophe modeling.
