Engineering Manager, Core Commerce Services (E-commerce)

Location: Berlin, Germany; the role is associated with working from the Berlin engineering location. Individual work-from-home arrangements may be available, including up to 20 days per year anywhere in the EU.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, mentor, and hire members of a high-performing engineering team.
• Define the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for the Core Commerce Services domain.
• Drive the design and delivery of scalable backend services and reusable platform capabilities, including a future headless checkout.
• Establish domain boundaries, APIs, and integration patterns using domain-driven design principles.
• Collaborate with Product, Payments, and adjacent engineering teams while balancing immediate delivery with long-term sustainability.
• Ensure secure, scalable, resilient, observable systems and promote ownership and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an Engineering Manager.
• Strong background in backend engineering and large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience defining software architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, and domain-driven design.
• Experience building and developing high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience with e-commerce platforms, core business services, or high-volume transactional systems.
• Strong technical judgment, empathetic leadership, stakeholder management, and the ability to balance customer, business, and technical priorities.
