TL;DR
Human Resources Specialist - Benefits (Compliance, Policy & Leave): Managing global benefits compliance, policy authorship, and leave administration with an accent on U.S. federal and state leave law, accommodations, and regulatory interpretation. Focus on drafting legally sound policies, resolving complex leave cases, partnering with Legal, and maintaining audit-ready governance across benefits programs.

Location: Hybrid role based in Chicago, Illinois or Bethesda, Maryland, United States. The position combines work from home with on-site presence at client or hirify.global offices. Travel may be required for client-facing work.

Salary: $110,000–$120,250 per year

What you will do

  • Monitor federal, state, and country-level benefits regulations and assess their impact on plans, policies, and practices.
  • Author, revise, and maintain benefits, leave, and time-off policies with clear and legally sound language.
  • Manage complex leave, accommodation, disability, health-plan exception, and return-to-work cases.
  • Partner with Legal, HR, regional teams, and providers on regulatory matters, policy application, and claims administration.
  • Own policy governance, documentation, version control, approval trails, required notices, and audit readiness.
  • Analyze leave, accommodation, audit, and case data to identify compliance risks and policy gaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of benefits experience focused on compliance, regulatory interpretation, and policy drafting.
  • Expertise in U.S. leave administration and accommodations, including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, NY PFL, CA PFL, and NJ TDI.
  • Working knowledge of ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and multi-country statutory benefits requirements.
  • Experience with global benefits programs, policy harmonization, intermittent and long-term leaves, medical certifications, and return-to-work processes.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • CEBS, GBA, CLMS, JD, paralegal credential, or formal compliance training.
  • Experience with Dayforce, SAP, SuccessFactors, or similar HRIS/HCM systems.
  • Writing samples or a policy portfolio.
