Golang Lead Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in London or Bristol, with at least two days per week or 40% of working time at an office site

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, release, and support of complex Go backend services and shared platform capabilities.
• Build reliable, secure, scalable, resilient, and observable services, APIs, integrations, and deployment pipelines.
• Drive engineering quality through code reviews, reusable patterns, automation, secure coding, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Engineers, SREs, and Security specialists to deliver practical technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers, guide technical decisions, and contribute to engineering standards and communities.

Requirements

• Significant experience building and operating production backend services in Go, including testing, concurrency, code quality, and maintainable service design.
• Experience with microservices, APIs, integrations, distributed systems, performance, resilience, security, and maintainability.
• Strong DevOps and operational engineering experience, including CI/CD, automated testing, release practices, and production support.
• Experience with containerized services and knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and modern cloud deployment approaches.
• Strong leadership, coaching, critical-thinking, decision-making, and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience modernizing legacy applications into well-owned backend services.
• Experience in regulated financial services or large-scale enterprise organizations.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Azure, OpenShift, platform engineering, or internal developer platforms.
• Experience using AI tools responsibly for software development, testing, documentation, or operations.
