R&D Mechatronics Engineer (Advanced Manufacturing)

Location: Onsite in El Segundo, California, United States. Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed. Due to ITAR compliance, applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $90,000–$154,000 annually, depending on level and qualifications, plus equity.

What you will do

• Develop and modify equipment hardware, software, motion systems, and controls for experimental materials and manufacturing processes.
• Automate printing, thermal processing, handling, post-processing, and monitoring equipment.
• Design, select, integrate, commission, and improve commercial and custom manufacturing equipment.
• Develop measurement systems, instrumentation, data acquisition, and analysis infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot equipment and software issues, identify root causes, and implement verified corrective actions.
• Own assigned equipment and development workstreams from concept through implementation, validation, and handoff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, controls engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of experience developing, integrating, or modifying complex electromechanical systems.
• Ability to work across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software interfaces.
• Hands-on experience with prototyping, troubleshooting, equipment integration, or experimental development.
• Experience with CAD, engineering programming or scripting, automation, data acquisition, experimental design, and applied statistics.
• Ability to work onsite in El Segundo, California, and meet the stated ITAR-related U.S. work-authorization requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with additive manufacturing, especially SLA, MSLA, or photopolymer printing.
• Experience with motion control, PLCs, embedded systems, industrial automation, or closed-loop control.
• Experience with computational geometry, slicing algorithms, toolpath generation, or nTop.
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, C++, machine vision, sensors, instrumentation, or data acquisition.
• Experience with ceramics, photopolymer resins, materials processing, investment casting, or other advanced manufacturing technologies.
