Junior R&D Engineer (Physical AI)

Laminar develops human-centric self-driving factory technology using inline sensors, physics- and chemistry-informed AI models, real-time process control, and industrial data insights.

What you will do

• Design prototype PCBs for commercial and custom sensors using KiCad, SolidWorks, and PSPICE.
• Develop hardware test strategies, collect performance data, and present sensor comparisons with the Data Analysis team.
• Assemble and rework complex PCBAs using reflow soldering, and support board bring-up and debugging.
• Design mechanical housings for sensors and edge-compute systems and conduct thermal, vibration, and ingress testing.
• Integrate sensors with established testing platforms using Zephyr RTOS.
• Own early-career hardware projects and provide design, assembly, and debug support across multiple projects.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of experience in electronics design, mechanical design, and data analysis.
• PCB SMD and THT soldering, rework, troubleshooting, oscilloscope use, digital signal analysis, and electrical schematic debugging.
• Basic coding experience with Python, C, and C++, plus embedded programming and data analysis fundamentals.
• Comfort working across electromechanical assemblies, experiment design, documentation, ambiguity, and changing priorities.
• Clear, efficient, and respectful communication skills, with previous project experience from work, research, internships, clubs, volunteering, or personal projects.

Nice to have

• Experience in electronics design, chemical process engineering, or manufacturing.
• Experience with PCB contract manufacturers, machine shops, microcontrollers, industrial communications protocols, and analog electronics.
• Experience with Zephyr RTOS or designing for sanitary and hazardous environments, including ATEX or ASME BPE.
