Staff Data Platform & Products Architect (GCP)

Location: Dearborn, Michigan, United States. Hybrid role requiring onsite work four or more days per week. Candidates must live within reasonable commuting distance of Dearborn or be willing to relocate to the area.

Salary: $132,800–$250,800 per year.

What you will do

• Architect and govern scalable distributed data platforms on GCP using BigQuery, Dataproc, Dataflow, BigTable, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, and Vertex AI.
• Design high-volume event-driven streaming pipelines with Pub/Sub, Apache Beam, Apache Kafka, BigQuery, and BigTable.
• Build secure, versioned RESTful and gRPC APIs with defined contracts, OAuth, and mutual TLS.
• Establish schema-first governance, data contracts, centralized schema registries, and data quality practices.
• Create reusable developer frameworks, templates, code-generation workflows, Terraform configurations, and GitOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Guide data engineering teams through architecture decisions, data modeling, containerized services, and developer enablement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, platform engineering, or enterprise-scale data engineering.
• 5+ years designing and operating end-to-end cloud data platforms on GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• 5+ years using Python, SQL, and Java, Go, or Bash for pipelines, APIs, and automation.
• Experience building a centralized developer ecosystem or developer-facing templating framework.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect certification.
• Experience with Data Vault, star schemas, BigQuery, BigTable, PostgreSQL, Spark, PySpark, Airflow, and Dataflow.
• Experience with GitHub Actions, Tekton, Terraform, Docker, Buildah, Cloud Run, or GKE.
• Strong communication skills for explaining complex architecture to technical and business audiences.
