Principal Architect (AWS/AI)

Location: Plano, Texas, United States. Must already have the right to work in the United States and must not require current or future immigration sponsorship.

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end reference architecture for a greenfield cloud-native engineering platform across application, data, AI/ML, and infrastructure layers.
• Make and document binding architectural decisions through RFCs, ADRs, design documents, and technical design reviews.
• Define standards for APIs, infrastructure as code, security, observability, testing, and deployment safety.
• Design shared infrastructure modules, API frameworks, data pipeline foundations, and AI/ML integration layers using production-quality code.
• Architect S3-based lakehouse patterns, event-driven streaming pipelines, analytical platforms, and integrations with Bedrock, SageMaker, and RAG workflows.
• Mentor senior engineers, influence engineering and product leadership, resolve complex distributed-system failures, and support hiring for senior technical roles.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years as a hands-on architect or principal-level individual contributor on AWS platforms.
• Proven ownership of full-platform architecture decisions in production and experience influencing multiple engineering teams.
• Deep hands-on experience with serverless AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB or Aurora Serverless, S3, and CloudFront.
• Experience with multi-account AWS governance, IAM, infrastructure as code, S3 lakehouse architecture, streaming pipelines, data governance, and distributed observability.
• Practical experience integrating Bedrock, SageMaker, or equivalent AI/ML services, including agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, structured outputs, guardrails, and model observability.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services, banking, or insurance, including compliance, data residency, and auditability requirements.
• Master’s degree, AWS certifications, data mesh or data product experience, and responsible AI expertise.
• Experience with CI/CD at platform scale, open standards, internal frameworks, open-source projects, or GraphQL federation.
